The Importance Of Taking Time To Yourself

gapyear

Before I went on holiday, I felt like I was having a quarterlife crisis. An existential dilemma of sorts. I lost my sense of direction as well as my drive. So I took a massive trip to the west coast and Hawaii with one of my dearest friends. I finally gave myself a chance to relax with little access to internet and cell service but with constant ocean air and hammocks. And it was exactly what I needed to rejuvenate.

Now, I’m not saying to just go on a two week holiday just because you want to get away or to give yourself a legitimate reason to relax. Sometimes it just takes 24 hours or a weekend to get yourself together again. We’re so connected to everything and everyone constantly, it’s tiring. It’s tough to get away, even for a moment at times it seems. It’s also tough to not feel so overwhelmed or be something in particular to get likes or to be appreciated by others.

What I am saying is this. After this holiday, I realized how important it is to take time for oneself at times, whether it’s a holiday or just a day without technology. With this holiday, I feel more at ease and more able to take on the world I am looking to conquer. What this holiday gave me was the clarity to see that it’s alright to get away for a moment or two-as long as you come back and realize what you have to do to get there again.  That you actually need to put yourself first sometimes in order to get ahead.

Career wise, looking for a company in marketing, HR or international affairs but at the end of the day, I’m open to any new ideas as well.
